Visit one of Thomas Dambo's magical masterpieces...
Pia the Peacekeeper is an 18-foot tall, whimsical public art sculpture made from recycled wood by Danish environmental artist Thomas Dambo, proudly installed in Sakai Park on Bainbridge Island as part of the Northwest Trolls: Way of the Bird King project. Created with community collaboration and materials like pallets, driftwood, moss, and even local apple-tree clippings, Pia celebrates environmental stewardship, creativity, and joyful storytelling. Visitors can walk, bike, or take a short ferry ride then a gentle forest trail from downtown Winslow to find her nestled beneath the trees, where she invites photos and playful interaction (just don’t climb on her). The installation also highlights community support and cultural exchange, with contributions from volunteers, local partners, and foundations working to bring public art to life. Whether you’re an art lover, nature walker, or curious explorer, Pia is a magical, eco-friendly stop that’s become a beloved part of Bainbridge Island’s outdoor charm.
